ASSOCIATION OF HAMPSHIRE AND THE ISLE OF WIGHT LOCAL AUTHORITIES
Friday 18 July 1997
COMMUNITY SAFETY POLICY
Paper from the Policy Officer
Crimestoppers
1.A report from the Kent Association of Local Authorities (KALA) representative on Southern Crimestoppers is attached. This report to all local authority associations in the Southern Crimestoppers region (Kent, Sussex, Hampshire) raises questions about the funding and effectiveness of the Crimestoppers initiatives.
Young People and Crime
2.Member authorities are currently considering the Audit Commission report "Misspent Youth: Young People and Crime" and other community safety issues such as implementation of CCTV.
The Role of this Association
3.At the last meeting I undertook to review not just the Association’s representation on outside bodies, but also the range of other local organisations and forums which have aims which are related to the Association’s objectives and priorities. As part of this review I am compiling information about joint community safety/crime prevention arrangements in association with the Police Authority.
4. When I report further on community safety, the Association will be in a position to respond to KALA about Southern Crimestoppers.
