ASSOCIATION OF HAMPSHIRE AND ISLE OF WIGHT AUTHORITIES
29 May 1998
A REGIONAL CHAMBER FOR THE SOUTH EAST
Report by the Policy Officer
RECOMMENDATION
That the guidelines for co-ordinating responses by member authorities be agreed.
1. The South East Regional Forum (SERF) has issued its consultation paper (attached) to all local authorities and to key regional partners.2. Responses are sought by 12 July, before the next meeting of this Association.
2. Establishment of a regional chamber for the Government Office for the South East area is a major development for local authorities. Member authorities will want to consider the paper carefully and respond individually. They will also wish to liaise with their partner organisations in the education, health, business, voluntary and other sectors. SERF is consulting member authorities on how best to achieve this liaison.
3. It is important for Hampshire and Isle of Wight authorities to co-ordinate their responses as far as possible. The Chief Executives will discuss the possibility of providing guidelines for responses with a view to seeking Members' approval at this meeting.
