LOCAL AGENDA 21 - FEEDBACK FROM THE CONFERENCE IN WINCHESTER ON 2 DECEMBER 1998
Report by the Policy Manager
RECOMMENDATION
That the report be noted.
1. 120 members and staff from Hampshire and Isle of Wight local authorities and from the Government Office for the South East (GOSE), with representatives of the voluntary sector, attended this conference at Winchester Guildhall.
2. The emphasis of the conference, funded by GOSE, was:
bringing everyone up to speed
corporate, integrated working, developing partnerships and joint working with other agencies
modernising local government.
3. Separate workshops in the afternoon have resulted in an extensive joint work programme being suggested, to be taken forward by Environmental Co-ordinators in association with the Chief Executives' Group.
4. An Executive Summary will be produced from the Conference proceedings, and a further report will be made to the Association later his year on implementing LA21 in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Meanwhile some authorities (eg Havant Borough Council) are repeating this particular conference for their members and staff.
